The Best Buy for Laptops
The $54-million Lost Laptop?
In December, EZFind ran a contest for people who wrote in and shared their “Lost and Found” stories. There were many great stories submitted and the winners chosen.
But, sometimes it doesn’t take a contest to have the best stories told.
Today’s Red Tape Chronicles by Bob Sullivan on MSNBC.com tells the story of Washington D.C.’s Raelyn Campbell who recently filed a lawsuit in the District’s Superior Court seeking $54-million against the electronics retailer Best Buy.
It’s by far the best lost and found [or, not found] story, and probably not the best story for Best Buy.
The story was posted at 5am CT and by early afternoon; more than 1,925 comments were posted in response to the story. In case you’re wondering, that’s a lot.
Not only is the news story a good story with many valid points to be taken away, but the reader comments are amazing. These stories run the gamut from supporting Ms. Campbell or not, similar accounts and experiences, lost items, levels of customer service and many more.
There are really two stories here making the headlines. The first is the whopping $54-million lawsuit and how badly Ms. Campbell feels she has been treated by Best Buy, and the second story is about something that was lost – another laptop computer – and until now, not found.
Why is something lost so important? Perhaps to the tune of $54-million? Well, that number may be debatable but many things are not debatable, these might include:
Lost time – As the article says, “The run-around.” Putting a price on your time and that of others.
Lost information – Can you put a price on a priceless photo or other information?
Lost Identity – Today, ID Theft is the category leader of crime. Think about this and how it can devastate you for years.
This will be an interesting story to follow in the days and months ahead but in the meantime, perhaps a lot of misery and embarrassment could have been avoided if the laptop Ms. Campbell had some basic EZFind Global Return Service labels.
Many EZFind customers don’t waste any time placing labels on their Laptop computers and also inside of the laptop, their laptop accessories and the carrying case. With EZFind, there’s a great chance someone will find the laptop somewhere and make a call to EZFind and we’ll do what we do best; returning lost items to their owners and rewarding finders. It’s proven.
If there was a chance all of this could have been avoided for $25, I’ll bet Ms. Campbell would have taken it. By far, the 'Best Buy' here would have been EZFind. No puns intended.
